The Atkinson Police Department has a mission to provide and maintain a safe living and working environment for the citizens of Atkinson through the reduction of crime and the protection of citizens through effective and efficient law enforcement.
The Atkinson Police Department encourages members of our community to become involved in our efforts to prevent crime and resolve issues or problems of concern. Everyone plays an important role in making the Village of Atkinson a safe, beautiful, and great place to live, work, and enjoy.
The Atkinson Police Department takes great pride in their commitment to serving the citizens of Atkinson. The Officers of the Atkinson Police Department have a strong dedicated belief, in line with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, that a trained officer is a highly effective officer.
There are State Mandated In-Service Trainings that are required for every Officer to complete; ranging from trainings in Law Updates, Procedural Justice, Civil Rights, and Human Rights, to Use of Force and Mental Health Awareness, just to name a few.
Along with these State Mandated In-Service Trainings, the Officers of the Atkinson Police Department have gone well above and beyond the basic minimum requirements needed, and have obtained numerous Specialized Officer trainings/certifications, as well as numerous Trainer and Instructor licenses/certifications.
